Career Opportunity:

We have an exciting opportunity for a Project Manager in our Edmonton office. Reporting to the Consulting Engineer - Infrastructure and Utilities, the Project Manager – Utilities and Land Development will be accountable for focusing on delivery of projects for Utilities and URD business, and shall participate in business development activities. The Project Manager will work with a team of engineers, technologists, and administrators to deliver the project work and will provide technical expertise, mentorship, and leadership to the team; ultimately providing exceptional client service through the completion of Utilities projects.



  • Immediate Role (requires experience in these skills)

  • Manage projects ranging in values from $10,000 to $50,000 in    Underground Residential Development

  • Provide ongoing effective client communication to ensure accurate and timely project status reporting

  • Perform tendering/contractor selection, construction monitoring, progress billing, and as-built drawings 

  • Compile construction work packages and technical reports

  • Preparing and executing ACEC Contracts with owners, developers, contractors, and subtrades

  • Coordinate and perform design of power/CATV/communications/gas (3 and 4 party trenching designs), including coordination of all relevant stakeholders and approvals

  • Adhere to industry and internal standards

  • Authenticate design documents when required

  • Develop and maintain client relationships 

  • Provide regular internal feedback on project performance and schedule status, as well as risks and risk evaluations

Short Term Role Development

  • Manage projects ranging in values from $10,000 to $500,000 

  • Apply practical experience and knowledge of power & lighting systems related to low and medium voltage projects

  • Develop proposals, schedules, recommendations, and estimates based on site audits, power system studies, experience and client supplied information in response to client requests

  • Utilize project management techniques and quality control measures to achieve superior financial and client results: Key performance metrics include financial tracking, project gross margins, manpower efficiency management

  • Lead project teams effectively through collaboration, support, and team focus

  • Develop expertise and leadership in electrical & lighting scope on projects, including execution of design, design review, and coordination with prime consultants, utilities and municipalities.

  • Create engineered electrical designs for infrastructure and industrial projects

  • Write specifications for the supply of power delivery equipment and services

  • Ensure safe work process is executed with each job and a culture of safety is fostered

  • Work safely around low, medium, and high voltage electrical systems in a variety of environments, including utilities, lighting, commercial, and infrastructure.

  • Identify and investigate all safety matters and complete all required documentation including pre-job hazard identification, toolbox safety meetings/forms, incident reports and near miss reports 

  • Complete project invoicing in conjunction with Accounts Receivable

  • Explore opportunities to find new work through leads from Engineering & Technical Field Services, Marketing, and client management

  • Along with other Project Managers and Client managers in the team, develop and maintain a business development strategy for finding new business opportunities

  • Pursue work to support a sustainable team workload with steady planned growth

  • Drive and participate in the improvement and development of processes, procedures and work execution tools.

  • Build relationships and work collaboratively with Operational and Central Services teams to assist in implementing and executing all Magna practices and processes

  • Assist in the development of individual (personal) and team based Success Measures, and pursue the goals as set in these measurements

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • 2-5+ years of experience as an Electrical Engineer or Electrical Technologist, specifically with an Underground Residential Development project coordination role

  • 3+ years of working experience coordinating with a utility (ie: Epcor, Fortis, Atco Electric, etc)

  • Desire for a career expanding from Underground Residential Development projects

  • Knowledge of Electrical Power Distribution and Canadian Electrical Code

  • Ability to self-manage with proven initiative and client focus

  • Proficient computer experience in Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office applications

  • Experience with AutoCAD and/or MicroStation and a willingness to learn and improve

  • Member with (or eligible to apply for) APEGA or ASET registration as a professional

  • Ability to self-manage with proven initiative and client focus

  • Strong problem solving skills, and the ability to work with minimal supervision

  • Must be able to work in a dynamic work environment

  • Excellent time management skills with an attention to detail

  • Team player with excellent communication skills both written and verbal

  • Must have a valid driver’s license

  • A positive, “can-do” attitude
