Career Opportunity:

We have an exciting opportunity for an Offshore DCS Specialist (ABB 800xA) within our Edmonton Automation Team. Reporting to the Automation Manager, the successful candidate will be accountable for providing programming, commissioning, and field support services primarily offshore; ultimately providing exceptional client experiences.

Accountabilities

  • Confidently work with various brands of DCS, PLC, and SCADA systems.

  • Configuration including configuration of control strategies, interpret control narrative and configure control loops consisting of simple, medium complexity, and high complexity loops.

  • Program shutdown keys, and Safety Instrumented Functions (SIFs).

  • Implement best practices to optimize plant operations.

  • Independently carry out client witnessed acceptance testing for software and hardware.

  • Loop checks and tuning.

  • Third party interface testing.

  • Interface with third party products (PLCs, HMIs, OPC Clients, Historians).

  • Interface with clients to manage client expectations.

  • Provide Superior Client Experiences to assist in maintaining the trusted partner relationship with clients and other business partners.

  • Complete technical report writing.

  • Interact with clients and colleagues in a courteous and professional manner.

  • The role would be 3 weeks offshore – 3 weeks off rotation.

  • Duration      is 6 months with potential for transfer to another project after.

Required Skills and Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Advanced knowledge of ABB 800xA system.

  • Demonstrated experience with various brands of PLC. GE PLC experience would be an asset.

  • Hands-on field experience with commissioning and troubleshooting of controls systems.

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision as well as within a team environment.

  • Strong technical/computer background.

  • Ability to successfully manage multiple priorities and assignments.

  • Advanced planning and organizational skills.

  • Excellent time management skills with attention to detail.

  • Team player with excellent communication skills both written and verbal.

  • A positive, “can-do” attitude.

  • Proficient English language skills.

  • Previous experience in an offshore environment would be a definite asset but not required.

  • Successful candidates will be required to complete all the required offshore training prior to mobilization.

  • Trade, tech, or engineering school certification.

  • Must have a valid driver’s license.
