Description

We have an exciting opportunity for an Energy Management Systems (EMS) Engineer for an eighteen (18) month secondment in Vegreville, Alberta. Reporting to the Operations Manager, the Energy Management Systems (EMS) Engineer will be accountable for providing technical lead to the site operations team in the monitoring, assessment, and analysis of SCADA systems modeling.

Accountabilities

Responsibilities would include but are not limited to, maintaining the Energy Management Systems and interfaces to various Power Systems Operational Technology. The EMS Engineer will be required to develop and maintain applications and displays used by Transmission Operations. The EMS Engineer shall be specifying, designing, programming, configuring, commissioning, and troubleshooting Energy Management Systems.


  • Electrical power system studies (load flow, short circuits, arc flash, motor starting, grounding, etc.)

  • Working knowledge of software: SCADA

  • Technical report writing

  • Working knowledge of the Canadian Electrical Code C22.1-18 Part 1

  • Working knowledge of IEEE Standards

  • Design of utility control schemes

  • Design of medium and high voltage protection systems (schematics and wiring)

  • Excellent communication - written and spoken

  • Foster a culture of strong client relationships and support team members in establishing strong relationships and communication with clients

  • Interact with clients in a courteous and professional manner

Oversee all aspects of projects having been assigned project management responsibilities.

  • Complete all project deliverables to the satisfaction of the client

  • Taking responsibility as a professional engineer when assigned responsibility for any required      review, verification, and authentication

  • Maintain necessary communication with the client

  • Ensure proper, complete preparation is done for scheduled work

  • Ensure safe work processes are executed with each job and a culture of safety is fostered

  • Ensure work is properly executed

  • Ensure completion of reports and follow up with clients to ensure satisfaction and completeness of work

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Electrical Engineering degree required

  • Professional Engineering Designation with APEGA required

  •  7- 10 years experience in an Electrical Utility Industry and/or in a control room real time operation environment is preferred.

  • Ability to be onsite in Vegreville for 18 months, standard day shifts (5x8hour regular office hours) Ability to perform engineering feasibility studies

  • Strong knowledge of SCADA/ADMS/EMS systems (OSI preferred)

  • Knowledge of CYME, ASPEN, Hexagon GIS, and OMS programs

  • Knowledge of Python and C programing languages

  • Experience and working knowledge of SCADA

  • Possesses a positive attitude, is highly self-motivated, energetic, passionate and reliable

  • Proven ability to proactively and effectively communicate with various cross functional stakeholders to achieve operational excellence

  • Ability to multi-task, exercise good judgment and prioritize workload through outstanding organizational skills

  • Dedicated to providing exceptional client experiences to our internal and external clients

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with highly developed relationship management skills to interact with various levels within an organization

  • Proven commitment to safety

  • Must have a valid drivers’ license

  • The ability to travel and work flexible shifts, which include weekends, evenings, and statutory holiday
