Electrical Engineer in Training – Co-op Student
Edmonton
Term – May to August/December 2023
We have an exciting opportunity for an Electrical Engineer in Training Co-op Student within our Edmonton Engineering team. Reporting to an Engineering Manager, the successful candidate will be accountable for providing Engineering and Field support primarily for industrial and institutional projects; ultimately providing superior client experiences.
Accountabilities
Apply practical application experience and knowledge of power systems towards industrial and institutional projects
Prepare Construction Work Packages, including technical drawings and supporting design documents
Provide overall support to project definition and implementation
Preparation of development stage documents including Design Base Memos and Engineering Design Specifications
Assist with procurement for specified equipment, materials, and parts
Coordinate electrical inspection services
Conduct QA/QC checks of outgoing documents
Manage document control activities within the client’s doc control systems and Magna’s
systems
Develop proposals based on audits, studies, and recommendations in response to client requests
Provide status updates on projects to Client Project Managers, Magna Senior Project Engineers and Magna Team Leaders
Work safely around low, medium, and high voltage electrical systems in a variety of environments, including utilities, manufacturing, mining, and oil and gas
Write procurement specifications for electrical equipment
Complete technical report writing
Interact with clients in a courteous and professional manner
Collect power system information at a variety of client sites for conducting power system studies
Occasionally assist the Field Services team with maintenance outages and commissioning at client sites
Various other duties as required
Required Skills and Qualifications
Currently completing a degree in Electrical Engineering
Proficient computer experience in Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office applications
Excellent time management skills with strong attention to detail
Team player with excellent communication skills both written and verbal
Travel 10-20% of the time for field services engineering work at client sites
Assets for Applicants
Valid driver’s license
Electrical, controls, and protection design experience, preferably in an industrial environment
Working knowledge of the following softwares:
o AutoCAD
o MicroStation
o ETA
o SKM
Knowledge of electrical apparatus such as switchgear, motor control centers, VFDs, protection relays, and transformers
Experience in some or all of the following industries is an asset:
o Manufacturing
o Processing Facilities
o Pulp & Paper
o Oil & Gas
o Utilities
o Renewable Energy
