We have an exciting opportunity for a Designer/Drafter - Electrical within our Engineering Team in our Edmonton office. Reporting to the Consulting Engineer, the successful candidate will be accountable for creating exceptional client experiences by creating and designing electrical work packages that support their team in various areas of electrical consulting services. The team provides electrical consulting services for a variety of projects including water treatment, wastewater treatment, storm water management, land development, electrical utility distribution upgrades, electrical studies, lighting designs, protection coordination, wind/solar farm designs, and substation designs and upgrades.
Accountabilities
Prepare detailed drawing packages of a variety of maps, plans, charts, and engineering designs using AutoCAD and/or MicroStation software
Provide drafting, design, and coordination within the engineering department
Serve as company liaison with clients on administrative and technical matters for assigned projects
Complete detailed electrical engineering design of power distribution systems and small-to-medium sized control systems under the supervision of a project manager
Application of relevant industry codes and standards such as the Canadian Electrical Code (CEC), National Building Code - Alberta (NBC-AE), National Fire Code – Alberta (NFC-AE), and National Fire Protection Association (NFPA)
Perform on-site inspections and witness the commissioning of electrical and control system installations
Provide technical support to Engineers and Project Managers.
Prepare work packages, including drawings and specifications, for internal teams and external clients
Review electrical studies such as load-flow, short-circuit, coordination, and arc-flash studies
Attend on-site construction meetings, document meeting-minutes, and provide support to Project Managers during construction and commissioning phases of assigned work
Respond to requests for information during construction from project stakeholders
Coordinate and arrange for repairs, inspections and approvals of Construction Completion Certificates as required
Attend Industry Events, interface with clients with business development intent.
Interact with clients in a courteous and professional manner
Build and maintain exceptional client and vendor relationships to enable successful project execution
Identify and implement process improvements
Required Skills and Qualifications
Graduate of a university or technical institute program specializing in electrical, instrumentation, controls, and/or automation systems
Proficient computer experience in Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office applications
Proficiency with AutoCAD (MicroStation experience is an asset but not required) Strong business acumen and relationship building skills
Strong problem-solving skills, and the ability to work with minimal supervision
Must be able to work in a dynamic work environment
Excellent time management skills with a strong attention to detail
Professional team player with excellent communication skills both written and verbal
A positive, “can-do” attitude and client focused approach
Related Skills that would be considered an asset:
Membership with either, the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA), and/or the Association of Science & Engineering Technology Professionals of Alberta (ASET) with any of the following professional designations; E.I.T., P.Eng., C.E.T., C. Tech., P. Tech
Formal training in with computer aided drafting (CAD) software – proficiency with either AutoCAD and/or Microstation platforms is asset
Demonstrated experience with electrical and control systems design, installation, and/or field testing and commissioning
1-2 years of experience in electrical/controls/instrumentation or automation design or construction
Proficiency with AGI32 or similar lighting design software
Experience with protection relays and associated software
Experience with ETAP, SKM, or EASYPOWER software
Proficiency with PLS-CADD, SAG10 or Overhead Design software
Familiarity with 3D modelling software such as AutoCAD, Navisworks, Plant 3D, MEP, or Revit
