Description

We have an exciting opportunity for a Controller - Canada in our Edmonton office. Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, the successful candidate will be accountable for finance and accounting functions for multiple legal entities with numerous offices in Canada – while also providing support for the USA and Chilean Controllers as needed.

Accountabilities

  • Lead direct reports including Senior Accountant, Accounts Payable Coordinator role and others as deemed necessary to effect timely accurate financial information provision

  • Ensure timely review and approval of financial transactions

  • Implement and confirm consistent application of Internal Control processes

  • Manage completion of various account reconciliations

  • Ensure timely generation of Intercompany invoicing with subsequent reconciliation between Companies

  • Prepare year end reconciliations and coordinate year-end Audit engagement with external accountants

  • Assist with the preparation of Company Annual Operating Plans, and subsequent reforecasts

  • Support regional offices in Canada, while collaborating with U.S. and Chile Controllers on education and development of accounting and finance knowledge

  • Provide overall expertise and leadership to larger administrative group

  • Work cross functionally with Operations and Central Services (IT, HR, Supply Chain, etc) to coordinate improvement initiatives and implement Accounting practices and controls  as needed

  • Complete a range of special projects as required.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Professional accounting designation with a minimum of 5 years experience

  • Experience with project based accounting

  • Knowledge of databases and ability to mine, build analytical models, and analyze data

  • Familiarity with Power BI reporting tool

  • Strong analytical and organizational skills

  • Familiarity with Deltek (Magna’s ERP) is an asset

  • ERP system conversion experience is an asset

  • Experience with banking, insurance, credit management and taxation

  • Effective communication skills both oral and written

  • Ability to work well in a team environment

  • Adaptable and willing to lead change productively

  • Internal or external audit experience is considered an asset

  • Ability to travel (Canadian, U.S., International) minimal requirements (less than 5%)

  • A positive, “can-do/will-do” attitude and client focused approach
