This is a unique career opportunity for individuals who strive to work within leading multi-disciplinary team with exposure to both Power and Automation systems. This position will provide an opportunity to gain experience in the lifecycle of power and automation systems from FEED stages through detailed design, implementation, commissioning and ongoing operations support.
We have an exciting opportunity for an Automation Specialist with focus on DCS and PLC systems within our Edmonton Automation team. Reporting to the Automation Manager, the successful candidate will be accountable to provide Engineering and Field support primarily on DeltaV and ControlLogix configuration and graphic design. Experience on other Automation systems such as Wonderware, Modicon, Honeywell, Foxboro, or Siemens would be an asset.
Design and implement automation systems for both green field and brown field projects with ability to provide necessary deliverables to upgrade/migrate and expand existing systems
Configuration including configuration of control strategies, interpret control narrative and configure control loops consisting of simple, medium complexity, and high complexity loops
Program shutdown keys, and Safety Instrumented Functions (SIFs)
Confidently work with various brands of DCS, PLC, and SCADA systems
Implement best practices to optimize plant operations
Independently carry out client witnessed acceptance testing for software and hardware
Loop checks and tuning
Third party interface testing
Interface with third party products (PLCs, HMIs, OPC Clients, Historians)
Interface with clients to manage client expectations
Support instrumentation and network team for testing and troubleshooting
Support sales and proposals team and participate in bid preparation
Support customer visits with business development teams to help create new business
Provide Superior Client Experiences to assist in maintaining the trusted partner relationship with clients and other business partners
Complete projects on time, within budget and with exceptional quality
Partner with cross functional teams to meet client needs
Complete technical report writing
Interact with clients and colleagues in a courteous and professional manner
Site rotations as required
Travel 25-50% of the year based on project requirements
Required Skills and Qualifications
Advanced knowledge of DeltaV DCS and Rockwell ControlLogix
Instrumentation Engineering Technologist Diploma or B.Sc. in Systems Engineering, Process or Electrical Engineering (emphasis on Process Control would be an asset)
Experience in process simulation software would be an asset
Demonstrated experience/familiarity with one or all of the following systems would be an asset: Honewell, Schneider/Modicon, Siemens, Wonderware
Working knowledge of other makes of DCS, PLC, and SCADA systems would be an asset
Able to work independently with minimal supervision as well as within a team environment
Ability to support Electrical and network design teams in developing the full automation architecture including third party interfacing
Strong technical/computer background
Ability to successfully manage multiple priorities and assignments
Advanced planning and organizational skills
Excellent time management skills with attention to detail
Team player with excellent communication skills both written and verbal
A positive, “can-do” attitude
Willingness to travel; valid Class 5 driver license required
Ability and willingness to travel nationally and internationally
